How many photos should you have on Hinge?
By the bestsideofyou teamLast updated
Hinge asks for six photos or videos, so six is the answer. The real question is what to put in each slot. Make each of the six do a different job: a clear face, a full-length shot, something you do, you with people, a place you love, and one more of whatever is strongest. Six versions of the same selfie fill the slots but make your profile feel smaller.
The six slots
- 1Clear face, natural lightLets people see you before anything else. Eye level, no sunglasses, no group.
- 2Full length, standingAnswers the question everyone has and nobody asks. Taken from a few metres away, not a mirror.
- 3Doing the thing you mentionedTurns a prompt claim into proof: the climbing wall, the pottery wheel, the pizza oven.
- 4Candid, mid-laughShows what you are like when you are not posing. Ask a friend to talk to you while they shoot.
- 5With friends, you obviousShows you have people. One photo is enough, and you should be easy to find in it.
- 6A place that matters to youYour local café, your allotment, your Sunday route. Gives someone a first-date idea.
The order
Put your clearest, most recent photo of just you first. Your photos appear between your prompts, so think of the profile as one story: a photo, an answer, another photo. Put the full-length shot early, and spread the rest so each one adds something new.
Make photos and prompts work together
A photo that backs up an answer is easy to remember. If you mention your pottery wheel in “Unusual skills”, show the bowl. If your answer to “I'm in my element when” is about the climbing gym, use a climbing photo. “I geek out on” and “My simple pleasures” pair well with a detail shot or a place you love.
What to leave out
Group photos where nobody can tell which one is you, sunglasses in every shot, heavy filters, photos that are years old, and more than one mirror selfie. The photos to avoid guide goes through the full list.
Once your photos are set, check your answers with the prompt checker.
Questions people ask
Can I have fewer than six photos on Hinge?
Hinge asks for six photos or videos to complete a profile. Use all six well, rather than repeating the same shot to fill the slots.
Should I add a video?
A short video can show more personality than a still photo. Keep it simple and make sure your face is clear. A great photo is still better than a weak video.
Does the order of my photos matter?
Yes. The first photo decides whether people look further, and the rest are seen between your prompts. Lead with your clearest, most recent photo.
