How to reply to a like on Hinge

By the bestsideofyou teamLast updated

When someone likes your Hinge profile with a comment, answer the comment and add one thing back: a small detail, a question or a playful push. If they liked without a comment, look at which photo or answer they liked and start there. Either way, your first reply should make the next message easy for them.

If they left a comment

Answer it properly, then hand the ball back. A one-word "haha thanks" ends things before they start.

Two truths and a lie
Their comment: The pie contest is the lie. Nobody wins a pie contest.
Your reply: Wrong, and I have the ribbon to prove it. Your turn: what's the most niche thing you've won?
My most irrational fear
Their comment: Geese are a reasonable fear, not an irrational one.
Your reply: Finally, someone who gets it. Have you been chased too, or is this solidarity?

If they liked without a comment

Hinge shows you what they liked. Use it: "You liked my “I geek out on” answer. Are you a map person too, or just impressed by my nerdiness?" If they liked a photo, ask about it or tell the story behind it.

If you're not sure what to say

Look at their profile and pick the most specific thing on it. A friendly disagreement works well with prompts like “Change my mind about”. A simple question about a photo works everywhere.

Things to skip

  • "Hey" on its own. It gives them nothing to answer.
  • Only compliments on their looks. Nice, but hard to reply to.
  • An interview. Mix questions with something about yourself.

Questions people ask

What do I say if they liked me without a comment?

Look at what they liked, then reply about it or about something on their profile. "You liked my volcano answer. Have you been to one, or is it on the list?" is easy to answer.

Do I have to reply to every like?

No. Matching with someone means you're interested. If you're not, you can simply skip them.

How fast should I reply?

There's no rule. Replying while you still remember why you matched is a good habit. Waiting days often lets the moment pass.
