Why do people unmatch me on Hinge?

Most unmatches on Hinge have nothing to do with you. People meet someone, pause their account, or clear out old matches. If it keeps happening, though, look at two moments: right after matching, when your profile didn't live up to a second look, and mid-chat, when a message changed the mood.

Unmatched right after matching
A quick unmatch often means a second look didn't confirm the first. Old or heavily filtered photos are the usual cause: the first photo got the like, the rest made the person unsure. The photo guide covers what a full set should show.
Negative answers also do this. Compare two answers to “You should *not* go out with me if”:
You're fake, flaky, or don't know what you want.
You put ketchup on a hot dog in Chicago. I will gently but firmly stop you.
Unmatched mid-chat
Look at the message right before it happened. Pushing for a number or a date too fast, a heavy topic early on, or a joke that didn't land are the common ones. You don't need to be bland. You just need the first few messages to stay easy.
Set honest expectations
If you want something serious, say so kindly in “I'm looking for”. If you're open, say that. Matches who know what you want are less likely to leave once they find out. A warm answer to “My simple pleasures” or “Dating me is like” also shows what a date with you is actually like.
